Purple Wedding Flowers {Weekly Wedding Flower Inspiration}

Purple wedding flowers…

At Passion for Flowers we are meeting more and more brides who are looking for a hint of purple in their wedding flowers. Our recent brides have chosen some beautiful purple bridesmaids dresses and would naturally like elements of their wedding flowers to tie in with the colour. We are seeing Cadbury purple right through to lilac at the moment.

If you are looking for inspiration for purple wedding flowers I have gathered together some of our favourite purple flowers to inspire you. Any flowers you like, print them out and put them in your wedding scrap book to take along to your consultation with your florist.

For a Spring wedding deep purple tulips can look elegant and fresh especially when mixed with white or ivory tulips. A handful of spring tulips can look beautiful tied together with purple ribbon for a simple purple and ivory spring bouquet. For your wedding centrepieces adding purple organza inside round bubble vases can bring out the colour even more on your tables.

Add a hint of deep Cadbury purple flowers to a white rose bridal bouquet to bring out the colour. With such a strong purple such as Cadbury purple we advise our brides to mix this in with other colours. An all purple bouquet could look overpowering but looks gorgeous when lifted by a lighter tone. Purple lisianthus are an excellent choice when looking for wedding flowers to tie in with Cadbury purple, and have the added bonus of being available all year round.purple wedding flowers vanda lily

If you are looking for striking purple wedding flowers you might these like Vanda orchids. These purple Vanda orchids look elegant and eye catching trailing through a tear-drop bridal bouquet. For wedding centrepieces Vanda orchids can look stunning as a highlight of purple in martini vase table arrangements.

For a more natural or country style look for your purple wedding flowers scabious are amazing. We love country style flowers for weddings and enjoy creating a ‘just picked’ look for our summer brides. These types of flowers work well for summer weddings in country gardens or marquees as the flowers can look as though they have just been picked from the hedgerows. purple wedding flowers place settings

Little extra touches can help bring together your overall look for your wedding. Finishing touches such as a single stem of purple lavender on guests place settings can look gorgeous as part of your table decorations as well as being a lovely wedding favour for your guests. Small vases filled with your chosen flowers can add extra styling to your wedding venue, think of fireplaces, alcoves and windowsills which may be lacking décor and dot a few vases along them, these can keep within budget but will finish off your venue styling perfectly.

Lots of beautiful purple wedding flowers in this hand tied purple bouquet we put together for one of our summer brides. Purple lisianthus, purple delphiniums, sweet peas and stocks mixed with cream lisianthus and David Austin roses. Although we have mixed a few tones and colours together here you can see it still gives an overall palette of purple wedding flowers. Mixing different tones adds depth and interest to your floral arrangements and bouquets, perfect for spring and summer weddings.

Ocean song roses are a lovely choice of rose to tie in with your purple wedding flowers. Ocean song rose is a soft lilac coloured rose, here we have used it in a floral arch with ivory spray roses, purple lisianthus and gypsophilia. On the doorway we hung a grey willow heart tied with purple ribbon to highlight the entrance to the ceremony.

For softer purples and lilac wedding flowers we enjoy working with hydrangeas and lilac lisianthus, again these look great mixed with greenery and highlights of deeper purple. We often add herbs such as rosemary and thyme to our greenery for summer weddings for their beautiful scents.

And for the boys… A selection of purple button holes.purple wedding flowers button holesPhoto credit top right: Billingham Photography

Lisianthus make excellent purple button holes for the chaps, they are robust and stand up well all day. Lisianthus grow in a couple of different shades of purple, deeper Cadbury purple, softer lilac and special lisianthus have highlights of purple on the petals. The lisianthus flowers themselves are pretty but the smaller buds which haven’t yet opened have their own unique look, don’t neglect them just because they haven’t opened yet, we often make these into button holes too.

There you go, a collection of our favourite purple wedding flowers. Which is your favourite?

Wedding Flowers: Lilac and Cream Summer Wedding Flowers at Mallory Court

At Passion for Flowers we love working with brides who have a clear idea of the colours they love.Claire was no exception and was inspired by wedding flowers in lilac, cream and purples to create a gorgeous summer look. Her groom Richard and the male members of the bridal party wore kilts so we added a hint of heather and used thistles for the button holes. We loved creating her summer bouquet of lilac and cream wedding flowers captured by Rob and Sarah Gillespie.

The bridal bouquet was a delicate mix of summer blooms in creams and lilacs to create a delicate summer mixed bridal bouquet perfect with Claire’s gorgeous chiffon Sassi Holford dress.

bridesmaids bouquet purples and lilac The bridesmaids bouquets had deeper tones of purple and lilac to contrast with their bridesmaids dresses. The mix of flowers was all part of the palette of soft lilac and purple colours we had agreed for the wedding day.

The corsages were a delicate mix of lisianthus and freesia continuing the lilac and purple wedding colours.lilac and purple corsage The wedding reception was at one of our favourite Warwickshire venues, Mallory Court. The room looked stunning with tall silver candelabra with wonderful wedding flowers in  creams and lilacs. At Passion for Flowers we love the soft backdrop for a romantic wedding.wedding candelabra lilac and creamAn elegant top table arrangement with glass hurricane vases and church candles was created with a soft garland wrapped in voile. The wedding flowers were lilac and cream roses, gypsophilia and lisianthus. For brides wanting a stunning effect place a candelabra at  either end of the top table.
