Photography by Daffodil Waves Warwickshire Wedding Florist Passion for Flowers Featured On Wedding Blog Whimsical Wonderland Weddings Kate and Dan were after a relaxed yet traditional wedding with a purple colour scheme, we helped keep the summer time relaxed vibe through the choice of flowers. Throughout the wedding we used a range of purple flowers as well as some vibrant green and white. We used lilac lisianthus, purple hydrangeas, white hydrangeas, purple veronica, alchemilla mollis and eucalyptus.

For Kate’s bridal bouquet we used a mix of the summer flowers mentioned above, this gave a lovely relaxed whimsical look to the bouquet, the bouquet was hand tied with delicate lace. For the bridesmaids we created a smaller hand tied purple bouquets.

Within the marquee at Nailcote Hall Kate knew she wanted something tall on the tables. We talked about lots of ideas but settled on a large ball of flowers for our tall glass vases. We set these up in the centre of each of the tables and filled the stem of the vases with pearls to give interest at eye level. In the arrangement itself we used large white hydrangeas, with purple lisianthus, eucalyptus and green alchemilla mollis to create the summer time feel. Along the top table we made a long a low arrangement of the same mix of flowers and spread out our glass heart bottles with purple lisianthus along the length of the table.

Rustic Bouquet ~ Pink, Purple & Hessian

A pink and purple summer wedding at Mythe Barn with a rustic bouquet. Here we are looking at Anna’s wedding bouquet. She was after a rustic / country style look for her wedding tying in with her pink and purple colour scheme.

The bouquet was a mix of soft pink Sweet Avalanche roses, purple lisianthus, white delphiniums, with snippets of eucalyptus and gypsophila, handtied in a loose bunch.

Recent Press ~ Wedding Flowers Magazine

Here at Passion for Flowers we are regularly asked to contribute our designs to Wedding Flowers Magazine, the March April issue is out now filled with some excellent flower articles.

Wedding Flowers Magazine

wedding flowers magazine march april cover This month our floral designs were for the ‘purple flowers’ section of the magazine. We chose to show a grouping of anemones, purple and cream lisianthus, wax flower and pink astrantia in a small silver vase.

wedding flowers magazine purple flowers by Passion for Flowers Our table centre was a gorgeous domed arrangement on our silver mirrored cake stand using a mix of lilac and purple flowers. We used Ocean Song and Memory Lane roses, astrantia, lisianthus, wax flower and ivory berries.

To tie in with the table centres we designed a purple lilac bridal bouquet with a similar mix of flowers, finished off by tying purple twine around the stems and a vintage key. The cute button hole is a Memory Lane rose with a snippet of astrantia and ivory berries, tied with twine and a scrabble heart. wedding flowers magazine purple flowers by Passion for Flowers 2 We also gave our advice for preserving flowers, read the article in full if you are looking for ways to preserve your flowers after your wedding. Purple Wedding Flowers {Weekly Wedding Flower Inspiration}

Purple wedding flowers…

purple wedding flowers {Purple Hydrangeas and Purple Veronica ~ Passion for Flowers: Midlands Floral Design}

At Passion for Flowers we are meeting more and more brides who are looking for a hint of purple in their wedding flowers. Our recent brides have chosen some beautiful purple bridesmaids dresses and would naturally like elements of their wedding flowers to tie in with the colour. We are seeing Cadbury purple right through to lilac at the moment.

If you are looking for inspiration for purple wedding flowers I have gathered together some of our favourite purple flowers to inspire you. Any flowers you like, print them out and put them in your wedding scrap book to take along to your consultation with your florist.

For a Spring wedding deep purple tulips can look elegant and fresh especially when mixed with white or ivory tulips. A handful of spring tulips can look beautiful tied together with purple ribbon for a simple purple and ivory spring bouquet. For your wedding centrepieces adding purple organza inside round bubble vases can bring out the colour even more on your tables.

Add a hint of deep Cadbury purple flowers to a white rose bridal bouquet to bring out the colour. With such a strong purple such as Cadbury purple we advise our brides to mix this in with other colours. An all purple bouquet could look overpowering but looks gorgeous when lifted by a lighter tone. Purple lisianthus are an excellent choice when looking for wedding flowers to tie in with Cadbury purple, and have the added bonus of being available all year round. purple wedding flowers vanda lily

{Purple Vanda Orchid ~ Passion for Flowers: Midlands Floral Design}

If you are looking for striking purple wedding flowers you might these like Vanda orchids. These purple Vanda orchids look elegant and eye catching trailing through a tear-drop bridal bouquet. For wedding centrepieces Vanda orchids can look stunning as a highlight of purple in martini vase table arrangements.

purple wedding flowers {Purple Scabious ~ Passion for Flowers: Midlands Floral Design}

For a more natural or country style look for your purple wedding flowers scabious are amazing. We love country style flowers for weddings and enjoy creating a ‘just picked’ look for our summer brides. These types of flowers work well for summer weddings in country gardens or marquees as the flowers can look as though they have just been picked from the hedgerows.  purple wedding flowers place settings

Little extra touches can help bring together your overall look for your wedding. Finishing touches such as a single stem of purple lavender on guests place settings can look gorgeous as part of your table decorations as well as being a lovely wedding favour for your guests. Small vases filled with your chosen flowers can add extra styling to your wedding venue, think of fireplaces, alcoves and windowsills which may be lacking décor and dot a few vases along them, these can keep within budget but will finish off your venue styling perfectly.

Lots of beautiful purple wedding flowers in this hand tied purple bouquet we put together for one of our summer brides. Purple lisianthus, purple delphiniums, sweet peas and stocks mixed with cream lisianthus and David Austin roses. Although we have mixed a few tones and colours together here you can see it still gives an overall palette of purple wedding flowers. Mixing different tones adds depth and interest to your floral arrangements and bouquets, perfect for spring and summer weddings.

Ocean song roses are a lovely choice of rose to tie in with your purple wedding flowers. Ocean song rose is a soft lilac coloured rose, here we have used it in a floral arch with ivory spray roses, purple lisianthus and gypsophilia. On the doorway we hung a grey willow heart tied with purple ribbon to highlight the entrance to the ceremony.

For softer purples and lilac wedding flowers we enjoy working with hydrangeas and lilac lisianthus, again these look great mixed with greenery and highlights of deeper purple. We often add herbs such as rosemary and thyme to our greenery for summer weddings for their beautiful scents.

And for the boys… A selection of purple button holes. purple wedding flowers button holes Photo credit top right: Billingham Photography
{Purple Button Holes ~ Passion for Flowers: Midlands Floral Design}

Lisianthus make excellent purple button holes for the chaps, they are robust and stand up well all day. Lisianthus grow in a couple of different shades of purple, deeper Cadbury purple, softer lilac and special lisianthus have highlights of purple on the petals. The lisianthus flowers themselves are pretty but the smaller buds which haven’t yet opened have their own unique look, don’t neglect them just because they haven’t opened yet, we often make these into button holes too.

There you go, a collection of our favourite purple wedding flowers. Which is your favourite?

Love Gemma x
